Zoe welcomed Rowland Smillie from Men Talk UK into the studio at Sheppey FM to discuss men’s mental health and their upcoming open day. Rowland explained that Men Talk UK was founded by Ryan over four years ago to address the growing need for mental health support for men in the local community. Drawing on their own personal experiences, including Rowland’s journey through depression, the group was created to provide a safe and supportive space where men can talk openly and access help. During the interview, depression was described as feeling like a 'black fog' that makes it difficult to see hope and light to get you through. Rowland recommended the YouTube video 'I Had a Black Dog' which Men Talk staff use in therapy sessions to help people better understand depression.Alongside his voluntary work, Rowland runs a company 'Kent Training Services' , delivering affordable first aid and health and safety training for individuals and businesses.Men Talk Open Day On 2nd May 2026 from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
