The ‘Road to Sheppey’

Written by on 13/02/2019

Revd. Cindy Kent MBE joined Keith to share her “Road to Sheppey” story. It began in the early 60’s as the lead singer of The Settlers, the UK’s leading pop-folk group, performing concerts, cabarets, radio & TV, including work with Cliff Richard. Greatest chart success – The Lightening Tree, the theme to the ITV series “Folly Foot”. With an active interest in Christian Religion since an early age, 1974 saw a complete career change to Radio production/presentation for Cindy joining BBC Radio 4’s “Sunday”, later moving to Radio 2’s “Gospel Road” and Radio1’s “Talkback” Her career in Radio spanned many decades up to 2010 and included BBC & ILR Local Stations, Premier Radio from 1995 (UK’s 1st Christian Radio station), plus TV appearances & work for the Mother’s Union ecumenical media ‘Awareness Project’ presenting conferences in Britain, Canada, New Zealand & Australia. By 2010 through years of study, her “calling” resulted in her becoming the Priest-In-Charge of ST John the Apostle church based in Whetstone, North London. A role that lasted until 2016 when it was time to semi retire and head to the Seaside. An internet search for properties in Kent (inspired by her Surname) Cindy struck gold with a property in Minster that overlooks the sea. In 2016 she was awarded the MBE for services to religious broadcasting. Whilst semi-retired she still remains an active member of our local community, conducting weddings & funerals & leading worship in Churches & the local hospital. Cindy is an admirer of Sheppey FM’s work and hopes to be more involved with us
