RNLI Beach Lifeguards Plans for Summer 2019

Written by on 04/06/2019

Matt Jones from the RNLI Beach Lifeguards unit joined Keith to share their plans for Summer 2019. Since the May Bank Holiday there have been active Lifeguard stations at both Sheerness & Leysdown beaches every Saturday and Sunday 10am – 6.00pm. This will become 7 days a week from July 6th 2019 and run throughout the school holiday period with The Leas at Minster location being added at that time too. Matt explained that each station houses 2 lifeguards and monitors a specific section of each beach location, identified with Red & Yellow marker flags. Each team member has to be able to demonstrate a specific level of fitness to ensure they can react as swiftly as possible in the case of an emergency. Each station’s information board is updated daily to show current weather, expected sea conditions & tide times, plus the names of the crew on duty. There are still opportunities for this summer, including support staff members too. For further details please visit the following link (which also lists in the requirements and training section about the National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification and how to obtain it)
